Context

  • I was in a dilemma in July 2019 to pursue Engineering from Thapar or not as I wasn’t getting the desired branch.
  • I was allotted Electrical first and then ended up with Electronics & Computer Engineering in further rounds. My parents and I were not that satisfied. I also thought of taking up a drop year for JEE. But the circumstances were not so appealing, and I, along with my mentors, decided to go for Thapar and prepare for upgradation as Thapar gives you two chances to upgrade your branch before you become a Sophomore (Kudos).

December Test | Thapar Uni

  • December Test(DT) was not for me, and I already knew it. Still, I kept myself prepared for DT and branch upgradation through commutative grade(CG) of the First Year. I managed to get a great CG in my first semester through a bit of hustle. Hopes of my parents went exponential and even I wanted to see me in a core Computers Branch.
  • There comes December Test in December(Of course) just after the Midsem of 2nd Sem. I only got 2-3 days for a revision and ended up with an 80ish Rank out of 660 students. Computer Engg. (COE) Seats went 0 around rank 25 shattering our hopes for a bit.
  • At this time a lot of people didn’t stop motivating me. I then started to work even harder for the last chance. Wait a minute! Getting a good CG in College is easy right? Indeed it is, but only I know sometimes how people who wanted upgradation went against batchmates & friends to attend each class so that they don’t miss what teachers are teaching.

Upgradation Information through CGPA | Thapar Uni

  • Long story short, I received the required CGPA, filled out the form(though this was another rollercoaster ride due to COVID-19) & attended counseling through a Zoom Meeting. I got the desired branch, I never regretted not taking a drop for JEE. All of this was because of people who constantly helped me, special thanks to my Sister, Papa & the authorities of TIET, Patiala to make this small task possible for me.

Some data

  • CG cut for Computer Engineering was 9.68 and 9.81 for Computer Science and Engineering. CG FY2019-20.
